Hirakud Dam

Hirakud dam is built about 25 km across the mahanadi river which is largest river of Odisha. Hirakud dam project is multipurpose scheme intended for food control, irrigation and power generation. The Gandhi mandir near the dam is also a lovely place to visit.its nature is beauty.

Neelamadhab Temple Kantilo

Neelamadhab temple is the orgin place of Lord Jagannath situated near the bank of Mahanadi at Kantilo. The temple stand on the top of the hill name Bramhadri which surrounding by green forest and its nature is really unbelievable.

How To Reach Rath Yatra

How to Reach Puri by Air

The nearest national airport in the state is at Bhubaneshwar ( Biju Patnaik airport ). There are frequent flights from Calcutta, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad. Puri is 60 km away, a distance that can be covered by road or by rail.

• Travellers flying from Europe or America (east): The best way to reach Puri is to fly either to Calcutta (Kolkata), Mumbai (Bombay) or Delhi and then fly to Bhubaneshwar. 

• Travellers flying from Australia or California could fly directly to Chennai (Madras) or Calcutta (Kolkata) and then fly to Bhubaneshwar.

  

 How to Reach Puri by Rail

One can even reach Puri via rail as the railway station at Puri is linked to all the important cities in India with regular trains. The railway station of the town is also very easily accessible from the main town area. The Bhubaneshwar railway station is the next main station which can be used to reach Puri.

How to Reach Puri by Bus

There are direct buses from the cities of Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam to Puri. Several buses connect other cities of Orissa especially Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack with frequent and fast state transport buses minibus, and citybus services that do the journey in few hours. Cars, Jeeps and other private vehicles also ply on the same route as do luxury buses run by Orissa Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC).There are two major bus terminuses at Puri one at Baramunda and the other is Badambadi (Cuttack).

60 special trains to Puri for rath yatra (2012)

In an attempt to meet the rush of passengers during the Rath Yatra Festival at Puri, East Coast Railway has decided to run 60 special trains from different parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. These exclude the existing trains coming to the pilgrim town, railway sources said. Special trains will also run to and from Puri to clear extra rush on the occasion of 'Sandhya Darshan' (special evening offering), 'Bahuda Yatra' (return car festival) and 'Sunabesa' (golden attire of the Lord). Apart from this, eight trains will be rescheduled, they said. Special trains to the pilgrim town will depart from Visakhapatanam, Palasa, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Paradip, Bhadrak, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Gunupur, they added.
